new to this

I am new to this board and am so glad to have found it. I have looked all over the web for answers and it helps to know I am not the only one going through all of this.
I have just had a LEEP proceedure after a colposcopy and biopsy, high risk CIN III, and now have to wait to hear if they got it all. This is the hardest part, not knowing, and feel I could jump out of my skin. I have to wait 6 weeks to see my doctor and get the answers, has anyone else had to wait this long? Does anyone else feel kind of gross during recovery period from a LEEP?

Re: new to this

Hi ,

I think I had to wait 3 or 4 weeks to get my results back. Depending on your doctor's patient load and the lab they use the wait is pretty normal.

Don't worry, the gross feeling will fade after a couple of weeks. It's normal. I think it's the mental part that's the hardest. All the waiting and not knowing can drive you nuts. As easy as it is for me to say, try not to worry. I had my LEEP last october for the same thing and it came back all clear and I've had two clear paps since. Try to stay positive, this is all pretty treatable!

Re: new to this

Thanks!
The mental part and waiting are the hardest part, draining! Everyone keeps telling me it is easily treatable, it is just plain scarey when it happens to you. I try to stay positive and put it in the back of my mind as much as possible, it is the slight possibility that they will find more in the lab.

Do you still get nervous every time you go in for a pap now? Were you horrified when you were face with all of this? I dont know which is worse, finding out you are in a high risk for cervical cancer or having an STD after being married for 15 years with 2 kids!
I am lucky in so many other ways and keep reminding myself of that to get through all of this.

Thanks for the reply, I cant tell you how much it helps I hope you continue to stay clear!

Re: new to this

I have to go to get a pap every 3 months for the time being and I still get all worked up until I get the results back. It is very nerve wracking.

I was recently divorced when I met and married my now husband. I get to thank my ex-husband for the wonderful gift of the STD too. Isn't it great? All kidding aside, I understand what you mean. Like I said, I found out when I was pregnant and as my doctor put it "you're main concern right now is carrying the baby to term and then we'll worry about the rest". That was horrible. Who wants to hear something like that? I remember my MIL (trying to be helpful) saying "well, sometimes your health has to come first" as if I would choose to risk the baby by taking care of it right away. I think I cried for a week and my doctor was a lot more reassuring at my next visit. He said he wasn't affraid of my miscarrying, he just didn't want me to worry when I still had 6 months to go.

I'm glad that I was able to help. I'm praying for good results for you. Let me know how you make out!

Re: new to this

Tell me about it! I have two kids, and have been married seven years. To find out I have an STD was pretty shocking! But apparently it is common since it can be dormant for ages and ages. I had the same as you (CIN III/CIS) with a LEEP, but the margins of my LEEP were unclear, so I had a cold knife cone as well.

All that happened in Nov/Dec of last year. My margins were clear on the CKC (thank God) and I just had my follow-up pap nine days ago. Still waiting for the results. Yeah, I was totally nervous. I think I will be nervous every time now...

Anyway, good luck! I'm glad you found us. It helps to be in the same boat with a bunch of other people!
