please help me! :( - Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Message Board

My name is Kim and I am a 19 year old female. For the past week or so ive been having a weird pain in on my vagina. The pain is below my bellybutton, on the top of the left side of my vagina. When I push down on the area I have a sharp pain that I can feel in my leg and left side of my lower back. I was diagnosed with BV and a yeast infection. Im TERRIFIED that I have cervical or ovarian cancer, since it doesn't seem normal to have such pain in that area.
Im freaking out and have been for a while now, my appointment isn't until the 10th, and I can't seem to stop stressing about this.
Does anybody know what this could be?
I feel around the area for lumps, but I dont feel anything. Please help, I am terrified!

It is possible that you have an ovarian cyst. Cysts occur at ovulation and sometimes don't resolve. That is more common than most people think, and they can or can not cause pain. Usually they go away with the next couple of cycles. And you could have a lot of irritation from the yeast infections as well. It is highly unlikely at your age that you have ovarian or cervical cancer, so try not to stress about it too much. I am certainly not a doctor and these are just a few thoughts. but do try not to let your fear run away with you too much. I know that is hard. Let us know how you do.

Glowing4 is correct. It could simply be an ovarian cyst which is an extremely common gynecological problem. I myself have a 7 cm simple cyst sitting on my left ovary which refuses to go away and I am due to go and have another ultrasound in February to see if it is still there. Most ovarian cysts dissolve on their own within a few menstrual cycles but unfortunately some take longer to resolve and they may keep on growing in the meantime. Sometimes they may have to be removed through a simple day surgery called a laparoscopy.

It is very unlikely that you have ovarian cancer as this is rather rare, especially at your age. Also, ovarian cancer symptoms do not present like what you are describing. They are either non existent until quite late into the disease or they consist of things like persistent (meaning they don't come and go but persist and get worse) bloating and digestive problems. Of course, if you by any chance have ovarian cancer in your immediate family then you should mention this to your doctor so that he can monitor you regularly. This goes for any other cancer as well.

So take a deep breath and try to keep yourself busy with things you enjoy until you can get in to see the doctor on the 10th. If you find that the pain becomes acute and severe or that you begin to run a fever or get chills, go to the emergency room as this may signal that a cyst has burst and you may have to get antibiotics prescribed to fend off any infection. An infection is a rare occurrence however and most cysts disappear on their own. It may also have nothing to do with a cyst and may be another common problem like appendicitis or something. A doctor will be able to tell you.

Worrying will not accomplish anything so try to do something productive in the meantime to keep your mind busy.

I know how you feel...I had a dull pain in my lower abdomin (under bellybutton) for a little over a month. I had a CT Scan done (and blood test, urine test, pelvic exams) and thankfully they only found a very small cyst (which is perfectly normal and goes away on it's own). I was also afraid prior to the CT Scan, that I had PID or something...so, I am thinking you just have an ovarian cyst that ruptured, but still good to check it out, to know for sure...

I used a heating pad the other day, and I haven't felt any pain since then. I also think the pain went away because I finally knew what was causing the pain in the first place! Ease of mind is the key and hopefully when you go to the doctor they can help you out more
