Question First post here-need someone to "talk" to ;-))

I've never been on this board before. I hope you guys are friendly. I was told a week and a half ago that I have severe dysplasia/carcinoma, CINIII, squamos cells, etc. It was quite a shocker considering my last PAP was within normal limits. It had been a year - which I thought was the respectable time frame.

I'm having a cold knife cone done. The Dr. said that they would be able to tell from that if these cells are invasive/microinvasive. The biopsy did not confirm it was invasive, but didn't exclude it either.

I'm going to stay positive and not even dream I'll need a hysterectomy. But I'm wondering... how serious really is this? I may be dumb, but what are our cervixes even for exactly? I was worried before but now feel really guilty for worrying as I know there are much worse things and I really should count my blessings.

It just stays with me more than I like it too esp. since I feel like I'm having cramps all day. But, there's really no reason now to be fretful, right?

Its hard not to stress but I dont think you should be too worried just yet. I had a cone biopsy done in October last year and they found I had cancer, it was in my glands.
They took out 3cm of my cervix in the cone biopsy and think they removed it all. I had to wait 6 months to see if it would return. I just had those tests last week and am waiting for the results.

My gyno told me that normally when its in the glands they would take the uterus out but because I havnt had children yet (Im 27) they are going to see what my options are.

Have you googled cervical cancer and treatments? I found alot of answers just by doing that about what the cervix is and what its for. And seeing an actual picture helped too.

I hope everything works out ok for you. I think its just comforting to know that so many other women have been through this and are there for support if you need them.

Oh and you shouldnt feel guilty for worrying! Just because its not as serious as what someone else is going through doesnt make it any easier or less important. What you are going through is pretty scary but there is always options.

Take care.
