Newbie...will find out this week if its cancer...terrified - Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Message Board

Hi,

I'm a 29 year old grad student, and I was just told on my last doctor's visit that I have several markers for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. In addition to that, she wanted to do a biopsy. Since, we had talked about taking a medication for a month first, I asked her how important it was to do that day. She said that I should do it. It was at first her idea to wait and see if the medication helped, so I'm not sure what made her change her mind.

No one in my family knows yet. I wasn't expecting that from the doctor's visit. What am I supposed to say know, "By the way, I might have cancer. I'll call you Wednesday and let you know."

And of course, it would be finals week. Somehow, finals don't seem too important right now.

Bless your heart, I'm sorry you're going through all of this. I know how stressful it can all be. It's no wonder you're not too concerned with finals right now.

I'll be keeping you in my prayers that everything comes back normal. Hang in there, okay? And please let us know what you find out.

First off Thumper, have you talked with your professors? Let them know what you are going through (without giving tons of TMI details). You might ask if you can have a little extra time to take the finals.

Secondly, when it comes to telling the family, I waited about a week. I just couldn't figure out what to say and how (phone, email, etc). I also had 2 major parties (one friend received her doctorate and sister in law had her engagement party). I didn't want my news to put a damper on either party. But that's just me.

Take some deep breaths. Focus on what needs to be done right now. And know you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Thanks for the thoughts, prayers, and well wishes!!! Its a definite with polycystic ovarian syndrome, so I'll need to be learning about that. However, there was no cancer. Thanks again!
