CA125 Blood Test

My Grandmother had ovarian cancer about 12 years ago. She waited too long and the tumor ruptured. She had to have a complete hysterectomy as well as chemo and radiation treatments.

She has been tested every 6 months for the past 12 years and all has been fine.

Lately. she started having a lot of dizziness. Her C/T Scan done last week was clear. The doctor had also ordered blood test and the CA125 was one of them.

The doctor called yesterday and they need to redo the CA125. This is the same doctor that has done all of her testing. What could be wrong?

I have had so many things to worry about with my Grandmother already and now this.

Re: CA125 Blood Test

Redoing a blood test could mean something as simple as the tests were inconclusive and they prefer to do another to make sure, the results were lost, or even a mix up in patient names and samples. If you want to know for sure why the physician ordered a second CA125 then ask him/her if it is anything to worry about. I would try not to worry. The fact that the doctor ordered a second test, for any reason at all, is showing that he/she is putting effort into finding out correct diagnosis and treatment steps for your family member. Not all doctors would do that, so take joy in knowing your family is in good hands. This may or may not take away your worries, but I hope it helps. Hope everything goes in a positive direction and only happy thoughts for your family.
