Leep procedure, what to expect

My 20 year old daughter was diagnosed with Ais, she is scheduled for a LEEP on July 18th. The doctor has said this procedure may get rid of the cells for a while, but most likely will come back and eventually she will have to have a hysterectomy. She has suggested that my daughter, if she wants children, that she should think about doing so, the sooner the better. Easier said then done. She is a non married college student, who had no plans of being a mother this soon. She would love to have children some day, but not now. The doctor has stated that she can have more than 1 LEEP, if the cells reappear. My question, I guess is, how urgent is it for her to have a child?

Re: Leep procedure, what to expect

Hi Ladyluke, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's AIS diagnosis. The doctor is correct, more than one LEEP can be performed. Doing so can cause problems later with cervical continence (holding the baby in) so the doctor can then do a (I forget the name circulage?) to keep the cervix closed so the baby can grow to term. The baby is then delivered (I believe) via caesarian (sp).

When it comes to having a child earlier than later, I don't know. From what I've read that is the general recommendation with CIN2 or 3 and I think AIS.

LEEP can be used as diagnostic and as treatment. I hope for your daughter that is all that is needed. That will give her time to think of what she will do.

I hope that helps.
