Are ovarian cysts and cervical dysplasia linked? I was diagnosed with cervical dysplasia 4 months ago and was just recently (after a 3 week bleeding period) diagnosed with ovarian cysts. Are these linked or is this just a coincidence?

Not that I know of. Cervical dysplasia can be caused by HPV. Women have ovarian cysts as part of their monthly cycles. There are other types of cysts that are *not* part of the cycle, but I don't understand a lot about them.

I *can* answer questions about cervical dysplasia, though.

What kind of dysplasia were you diagnosed with? What procedure have they done? What is the next course of action?

Yes I have HPV. Actually I am not even sure what type I have. I did not know enough to ask that at the time. I go back in September to check on both conditions. I guess I am just feeling a bit overwhelemed having all of these things going on at the same time. I eat well and work out and take care of myself so I find it frustrating. Also, I am on birth control, so I thought this should decrease the ovarian cyst likelihood. Thanks for responding.

Hi, no, as Pickle Eyes mentioned, there isn't a connection between ovarian cysts and dysplasia. I've had both, so I know how overwhelming it can be. I had to have laser surgery last year for carcinoma in situ (cervical cancer which hasn't spread yet) which had progressed from moderate dysplasia. I also had surgery in December for a complex, solid cyst on my left ovary and a functional cyst on my right ovary. They just went ahead and removed both ovaries since this was an ongoing problem.

Cmfenton, I encourage you to call your doctor's office and ask some of your questions now. It would drive me bonkers to have to wait until September to get the questions answered.
