Re: 49-Year-Old With Complex Ovarian Cyst

Hi Alma,

A pap smear has nothing to do with your ovaries. It is a test for cervical cancer and not for growths on the ovaries. Most ovarian cysts are benign, even larger ones. Last April I had my left ovary and tube removed due to a 9 cm ovarian cyst. It was benign. I know many ladies who have had cystectomies and oopherectomies due to cysts and they were all benign. I am sure you will be just fine and the cyst will turn out to be harmless. If it interests you, I have a post describing my laparoscopy from last April. It may help you to prepare for your procedure. Do a search under laparoscopy and you will find it (beg of May 2008).

I know the idea of surgery can be terrifying but you will pull through with flying colours, just like 99.9% of us do. Take good care of yourself. If you have any questions, come back and ask.

All the best.

Estria

Re: 49-Year-Old With Complex Ovarian Cyst

I am 61 and i am having lumps of blood coming from my uterus and I've been off my period for ten years. I started using warifin or blood thinner for clots in both lungs and the left leg when all of this started the bleeding. the dr. said my count was low so its not from the blood thinner, than what could this be coming from? does anyone have any answers? qua

Re: 49-Year-Old With Complex Ovarian Cyst

Qua,

Make an appointment with a gynecologist as soon as possible so that the cause can be investigated. The blood thinner may have something to do with it and that specialist you are seeing may not be able to tell you since he is not a gynecologist. You need to see the correct specialist and have an endometrial biopsy done. If you are on any hormone replacement, this may be the cause. Different foods, especially when combined with blood thinners, can also cause excessive bleeding (like Ginseng, Ginko etc..). A gynecologist will be able to help you so get it checked out by this specialist, rather than the one who is treating you for blood clots.

Take care.

Re: 49-Year-Old With Complex Ovarian Cyst

I am 50 years old and lately have different medical issues come up and starting to get a little concerned. Ok let me start from begining. A year ago I had a cat scan and ultrasound done for my gall bladder. Ultrasound showed liver abnormal so had cat scan. I was told everything was fine and I had gall bladder removed. A year later when it for my regular check up with new doctor (old doctor moved out of country), and he asked if anyone followed up on lesions on my liver or simple cyst on my right ovary? I was shocked since I never knew of either, so he scheduled a cat scan and ultrasound. Cat scan came back with enlarged liver and spleen and know I have an appointment with GI specialist next week. On ultra sound I was told I have an 8cm complex ovary (not sure of the type) and also another simple cyst like 1-2cm's. Doctor referred me to a gyn and I go next week. I dont have really pain per say, sometimes a sharp pain in the pelvic range, but I am nausaous at least a couple of times a day, I haved had diareahea for the last couple of month on a regular basis, breasts are senstive. I am nervous about all of this, am I just over analyzing things??
