| Update on Cyst, and Question...
Hi all (this is an update to another post)...
I am a 29 y/o, mother of a 7 y/o boy. I have a history of ovarian
cysts, although haven't had any issues since college (they were
discovered at that time because I had lower back pain).
There is a family history of ovarian cysts (my Mom had an ovary
removed in her 20's due to a large cyst), and also a family history
of breast cancer (my Mom was dx'd with it at age 44, pre-menopause).
I have had annual mammograms and breast u/s since I was 26, due to
the family history.
For over a year I have been having issues with frequent gas and
bloating. I have seen a GI who told me it is IBS and gave me pills
(which don't help the gas at all).
About 3 weeks ago, at the beginning of my cycle, I began having pain
over my right ovary. I ignored it at first, attributing it to my
cycle, however it continued. This past weekend it got worse, so I
called my OB/GYN, since I assumed (correctly it seems) that it was a
cyst. I was seen today, and the doc did a transvaginal u/s. He did
not see any current cysts, however when he showed me my "active
tummy" -- he pointed out all the movement of liquid, I guess in my
belly -- he pointed out liquid that was free standing and wasn't
moving. He said that he believed that to be the cyst, and that it
had ruptured. I was told my body will reabsorb the fluid, and that I
should feel better in a week or so.
I guess my question is, should I be concerned? I'm not overly
concerned about the cyst, but I guess more so that the fluid he saw
was indeed a ruptured cyst, since the doc didn't see any evidence of
a cyst on my right (or left, for that matter!) ovary. Given my
family history, would it be wise to ask my doc when I go back for my
annual visit on 12/3, to do the CA125 blood test?
