Colposcopy Questions

I've had abnormal paps every 6 months since I was about 17. I tested positive for dysplasia and HPV (the "cancer-causing kind" is literally what the doc said), and high grade ASCUS. I've been to three different gynos, but they all want to do colpo and biopsy every year. My doctor that I have been going to the past few years keeps telling me that it should "clear up on its own", but I'm getting very frustrated. It's been ten years of every 6 months in the office, and yearly colpos and punch biopsies. I dread these appointments because the punch biopsies REALLY hurt, the after care is unpleasant, and at this point I feel like it's pretty obvious I'm not going to get rid of it on my own. We have a strong family history of cancer, and I hate how they toss that word around during these appointments. Has anyone else dealt with this? Is this the proper procedure or what was recommended to you? I have never had any leep or freezing...just constant monitoring.
