high risk for cervical cancer

Hi, I am now writing because I am afraid I waited too long in between pap smears. I had abnormal pap smears in the past and four years ago had cryosurgery for CIN lll dysplasia. I am supposed to get a pap smear every year and like I said it has been four. I have high rtisk HPV. Has anyone had this and ended up with cancer? Please tell me your story.

I have not had CIN3, but I can give you some statistics on how likely it is to progress to cancer.

While both CIN1 and CIN2 are more likely to spontaneously regress than not, CIN3 only has about a 35% rate of spontaneous regression. About 11% of CIN3 cases will eventually (if left untreated) progress to invasive cervical cancer.
The remaining 54% of CIN3 cases will simply persist, neither progressing or regressing.

So: there is an 89% chance that your CIN3 has not and will never progress to cancer.
There is a 35% chance that it's gone away entirely.
There is a 54% chance that it's still CIN3, unchanged from the last time you went to the doctor.
And there is an 11% chance that it has progressed or will progress in the future to cervical cancer, without treatment.

If I were you, I'd go back to the doctor now.

Best of luck.

Re: high risk for cervical cancer

Thanks for asking! My Gyno saw stuff on my cervix so he did a pap and then said he was not waiting and did a biopsy right then. He took four samples of four different areas. So now I am waiting for results. I will let you know but not feeling very good about it.
