| CA 125 Question
Hi everyone,
My mom was diagnosed with stage IIIC OC and had the debulking surgery about 6 weeks ago and one round of chemo 3 weeks ago.
She was told that her CA 125 levels had gone from 1900 to 890 as of last week. Her dr seems to think this is fantastic but I'm not so sure from what Ive been reading. After the ovaries and everything else is removed, shouldn't the number go down even lower than that? I mean why is the tumor marker even still there if the ovaries are gone? Is it from the small amount of cancer in the lining that they couldn't get?
I guess I'm just confused as to how OC can come back after the ovaries are taken out. And if it comes back somewhere else, how is it still the same marker? I thought CA 125 was just for OC.
I appreciate any information anyone can provide. This is all so overwhelming.
Thanks!!
