As jal915 said, an abnormal pap isn't necessarily cause for concern. Relatively harmless inflammation and infections can cause an abnormal pap. It's generally recommended that the pap be repeated once or twice and if they continue to be abnormal, then treatment may be necessary. There's a lot of good info about pap smears, HPV testing, and cervical changes on .gov websites.
