Camptosar,, anyone try it for late stage colon cancer? - Cancer: Colon Message Board

My Mom is starting Camptosar for metastatic colon cancer. I was wondering if anyone has tried it. It's fairly new. She has already gone 6 months with 5Fu and leukovorin and it came back. It has gone to the lining of the lungs and I believe they are staging her at 4 now. Thanks for any info.

I was on camptosar last winter when I was in Florida.Colon cancer had spread to my liver they said,tho it didnt show up on CT ,PET, scans, or an ultrasound. It probably affects everybody different but with me, I lost all my hair and ended up with diarhea so bad I became dehydrated so bad I ended up in the hospital. I had been taking ammodium AD and that didnt help, they then put me on codiene and that stopped it, I also then stopped the camptosar. if I have to go back on it, I was reading one of these articles regarding this problem, and they can give you shots of medication to control it. other than that, I had no other side effects from it.

Billy, those sound like bad side effects, but I guess you do what you have to do. I had bad diarrhea and hair loss on 5 fu and lucovorin. Sometimes I think the cancer won't kill you but the chemo does a good j0b of trying.

I have stage 4 colon cancer and I am on Camptosar. I have had 3 completed cycles (2weeks on and one week off for a cycle) and my CEA level went down from 20 to 12.7 after a month of treatment. My last treatment I had diarrhea for 10 days straight so this time they lowered the dose. I lost my hair. My mouth is always sore especially my tongue so it is hard to eat. My cancer is in my liver and lungs as far as I know for now. My tumors grew slowly with this drug and one new lesion appeared on my lung. So I think I am buying some time. jthorp
