| Any suggestions??
My dad was diagnosed 12 years ago with colon cancer that was removed by surgery and chemo. He also had a spot on his liver at that time that was removed in a subsequent surgery. 8 years ago he had a reoccurrence with a mestasis to the liver and was given 3 months to live. He did some chemo and then had a cryosurgery, more chemo and 8 additional years. In January he was hospitalized with rectal bleeding. Subsequent CT scans, MRI and blood work showed high alpha feta levels and spots on the liver which at that time did not know if they were liver regeneration or tumors. He had a consult with cryosurgeon who told him he needed a biopsy to determine what the spots were except with the cirrohsis in his liver and the previous tumor his risks that apparently are 3-10% for others rose to 50% of death from the biopsy. He told dad to contact him when he made a decision about whether he wanted to do biopsy. Anyways, oncologist said no biopsy, too risky, referred dad for alcohol ablation for this large tumor, which was successful except for the multiple additional tumors that have appeared since the ablation. He is having port inserted and will start Folfox on Thursday. Oncologist says we are desparate at this point and generally few people respond well to this, which seems different then what I am seeing on these boards. But he says this is our only option. Since there was no actual diagnosis of what type of cancer (liver or metastasized colon) other than cancer, I am very anxious about him starting the Folfox with the different things that I have seen as far as side effects. Does anyone have any general advice about nutrition, nutritional supplements, anything to make this easier for my dad? He is 67 years old and has already been suffering from extreme fatigue which I guess is from the liver condition. I have only started recently going to the appointments with my parents so I don't know if they have said a stage of the cancer etc. but when the oncologist said we were desperate, obviously not the most uplifting of diagnosis. Anything anyone has to offer would be appreciated.
