cancerdad?

Could you please see what you think?

I have had hemroids for as long as a can remember, but last week I had quite a lot of blood with my bowel movement, plus a couple of smaller darker clots. I went to the docs and he said that he could see my bleeding roid ( I also had a barium enema, but that was 4 years ago) He told me not to worry as it was only a hemroid. I am a 40 yo female and I am just worried still as I was always under the impression that darker blood is something more sinister, and I have never heard anywhere about small clots with roids. Just wondering if someone here has good or bad news about this. The doc did do a rectal exam and said you have serious probs, but I guess he was talking about roids as she said it looked fine he used a little scope but I think it only sees a couple of inches up.

Thanks ROse

I'm sorry to hear about your problems. Typically, clots are NOT associated with hemorrhoids. Clots usually are INSIDE the hemorrhoid which causes such pain, and bleeding occurs as stool passes through and irritates the hemorrhoid.

I think it is DEFINITELY a good idea for you to go to a gastroenterologist and schedule a colonoscopy. Even if your doctor could see the hems bleeding, there is really no assurance that the blood that you always see... and the clots... are coming from the hems and not higher up in the colon. The ONLY way they can verify this is by inspecting the colon via colonoscopy. I wouldn't think you would have a problem getting a referral seeing that your doc told you that your hemorroids are so bad. A colonoscopy is really NOT a big deal, and allows visualization of the entire colon. You can read some other previous posts regarding colonoscopies. Also, feel free to ask any other questions.

I hope this helps.

Warm Regards,
CancerDad

Re: cancerdad?

Rose:
It is entirely possible. It sounds as though you MAY have not had a good experience with your colonoscopy the first time. My advise would be to find another GI for this one. Make sure that you are adequately medicated... if you experience ANY discomfort during the procedure, PLEASE TELL THEM and they will give you more medicine to make you more comfortable, help you forget, and make you fall into sleep. After the procedure is over, you will have gas in the Recovery Room. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.

It is important to have a colonoscopy so that the GI can remove any polyps that may be developing. If they are precancerous, then it's important that the GI remove them before they turn cancerous and grow into the wall of the colon. It may be difficult for you to do this procedure based on your past experiences. I REALLY think you will be VERY relieved, and see that a colonoscopy does NOT have to be, and shouldn't be at all painful. The hardest part should be the prep... you can help yourself out by not eating so much for a day or two before the prep day. Also, drink a sports drink with electrolytes to prevent dehydration. I KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS!

I wish you the BEST OF LUCK!!! PLEASE Come back and tell us how things went.

Warm Regards,
CancerDad
