Question Extreme amount of blood in toilet after bowel movement...

Today, when I had a bowel movement, when I went to flush the toilet, I turned and seen there was bright red blood in the toilet. I couldnt see any clear water, it was COMPLETELY filled with blood. I couldnt hardly even see the stool! I am really worried. I have no idea if this has anything to do with it, but... it cant hurt - ive also been having a weird pain in the left side of my stomach for quite a while now.. and for about the past month, ive been getting dizzy, tired & nausious.. randomly.

This is just really freaking me out. Any replies would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you so much.

When was the last time you saw your MD? I think it is important to check this out without delay.

The same thing happened to me on Feb.27 and I let it go for 4 more days till I almost bled to death on my bedroom floor. Diverticulosis!! Very extreme bad case. You will have pain on your left side with this. Please don't be stupid like I was and go to the ER NOW. Dyana

Re: Extreme amount of blood in toilet after bowel movement...

That is not good... at all! I had a very similar case, I had a very bad bout, when I was 4 months pregnant with my son, of rectal bleeding... I went to the emergency room since it happened 3 times in one morning. I needed 2 units of blood transfused... I suggest if it isn't too bad to see a gastroenterologist, at least see you PCP... I ended up with a very serious familial disease called familial polyposis and need the entire colon, save a sliver of the rectum, removed... Any bleeding IS NOT GOOD!! Have it checked out immediatly especially if there is any pain involved. Worst comes to worst, you'll get a colonoscopy, and since you said it was bright red, that means it's towards the end of the track...

Re: Extreme amount of blood in toilet after bowel movement...

you should never hesitate to check something like this out with a specialist and I would suggest having a colonoscopy. I had the same exact thing a couple years ago, and it turned out to be internal hemorrhoids. I still freak out when I see blood in the bowl but not as much as before. Because I now know what is causing it. The unknown can be more frightening.
Just get it checked out and then you know what you are dealing with. Usually red blood is caused by fissures or hemmorhoids (a doctor told me this) so i hope this relieves you a little bit.
But check it out.
