New: just learned I'll have colonoscopy tomorrow - I'm anxious!

I went to my first appointment with a gastroenterologist today. I am 44. (and was recently diagnosed with early stage cervical cancer. I'm having my hysterectomy next week (that's the only treatment I need, they caught it so early)). Since I've had occasional bleeding with BM and frequent constipation, I decided to see a gastroenterologist before having my surgery.

She wants to do the colonoscopy TOMORROW! I left her office at noon today, my colonoscopy is tomorrow at 2:30! That means I didn't get to eat the yummy mean I had planned for after that appointment.

Now, I get to take dulcolax, magnsium citrate, start the OsmoPrep, and have only clear stuff until after the procedure tomorrow.

The prep-form said no red foods or nuts 5 days before the procedure. Well, last night I had a lovely marinara sauce with pine nuts and red wine. I asked if all of the prep stuff will clear it out of me, they said "maybe."

I am very anxious about this. Stress from the upcoming hysterectomy is bad enough. Now this.

I'm now trying to find someone who can take me, stay, and drive me home after the procedure! Hubby can't do it.

Can someone wave a magic wand and make everything ok?!

First of all, calm down. It is highly unlikely (but I won't say it couldn't happen) that the cervical cancer means that there is colorectal cancer. It truly is a good idea to get this all checked out. Since I just went back and looked at the date of your post, you have probably already had the scope. I am hoping that things went well for you and that you had nothing more than a polyp or hemorrhoids.

You have enough on your plate right now and you really have to just take one step at a time here. You've been lucky with having found the cervical cancer so early. Right now you just have to concentrate on staying positive and being healthy to help get through that operation.

Please update us on how the scope went.

Re: New: just learned I'll have colonoscopy tomorrow - I'm anxious!

Thank you for writing, Jaynee/Weisssoccermom!

I got your message after I got home, but it was still comforting to get a reply!

The doctor ran 1.5-20 hours behind and I had an afternoon appointment. I was in a baaaaad mood! Then the nurse couldn't get the IV started. A second nurse took after after the first one poked me twice (and left one bruise that is 2 inches across). While the third attempt was hurting, the nurse told me to be still, I told her (using colorful words) how much it hurt, she kept hurting me and I twitched. Finally, she said if I moved she'd have to pull it out and start again. *I* told her if she did that I was going to walk out (and I meant it). Well, she got that one to work.

They gave me a little vercet (sp) and that helped. I didn't remember anything until I was getting into the car to go home.

The next morning I woke up and my descending colon was sore, and still is (3 days later). I'm not sure if that is where my 2 polyps were, if it is just gas (though it hurts even after passing gas), or if the doctor was a bit rough.

Anyway, thank you for writing. I'm glad the colonoscopy is over. She said (depending on the biopsy - which she thinks will come back fine) I won't need to return for 5 years. Woot!
