| colon cancer treatments
My husband, 49, had colon resection surgery on April 10. He had 18 inches of colon removed along with 19 lymphnodes, cancer found in 2 of them. Has seen an oncologist. He is prescribing 6 months of flurouracil, oxaliplatin and leucovorin. My husbands red blood cell count is extremely low, due to the tumor that was in his colon. The cancer has not spread to other organs and had not penetrated the colon wall. We have read alot about Xeloda, (capecitabine) and my husband is very interested in exploring this option, but the oncologist won't even discuss it with him. At the same time the treatment he is prescribing seems a little much and the side effects from all these drugs are scary. He would also have to have a mediport. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome. This is new territory for us. We have decided that we will need to find another oncologist for a 2nd opinion regarding treatment, but would like to know of other's experience with either treatment regimen. Thanks for your time.
