What stage can the diarrhea show in colorectal cancer?
My dad who is 67 years old has been having diarrhea for the past 1 month. He saw his doctor who initially suggested checking his thyroid but after that he is suggesting to do a colonoscopy. I have gone through various websites and they all seem to indicate that this is one of the symptoms for colorectal cancer. I am too shaken reading all this. I hope my fear turns out to be a red-herring. However, if it is diagnosed as colorectal cancer what stage can the diarrhea appear? I hope, if it is colorectal cancer, this is the initial stage but was wondering if anyone can provide more info. Also can colorectal cancer have only one symtom i.e. diarrhea?
Also what are the best places for treating this and the costs at various stages. He lives in India and I live in the UK.
A brief background about him:
Retired in 1997 as an airforce personnel, diabetic (very well controlled through diet and some pills -aspirin etc) and does exercise daily. Had an episode of Ischemic Stroke around 5 years ago which has since been cured. Was an infrequent (one a week) smoker until he was 50 and had alcohol also very infrequently.
The doctor has given an appointment a few days later but I am too worried. I understand I may be jumping the gun but hope you all can appreciate my situation.
Kind Regards - Bhaskar
