| 4 cm polyp
Hi I am new here. I am a 48 year old female in good health.
About 4 months ago I noticed that I was having some blood in my stool...very little, but I could see it. I told my doctor, and she said to eat more fiber, but I told her I wanted a fecal occult blood test...so she got me one and I did the test. It came back positive, so they sent me for a colonoscopy. Well I just had that this week, and the doctor said he found a 4 cm mass in my sigmoid colon, and he says he is pretty sure it is cancerous.
So he setup an appointment with a surgeon next week, and by then he should have the pathology report on it. I am so scared and have been researching frantically about this. My biggest fear is I keep reading that it is important for early detection. Well, they don't start screening people with colonoscopies until 50. I would have had to wait 2 more years if my doctor did not grudgingly give me a fecal blood test. Does anyone out there have any experience with a polyp this big. I have read so much about symptoms of it spreading, but I am at a loss as to what to do. The wait for the reports is killing me. Any insight would be appreciated
