Post Colonoscopy Worries

I just had my first colonoscopy last week. I am only 30, with a family history of colon cancer. I ended up in awful pain right in the middle of the procedure, and by awful, I mean crying out in pain and sending me into body shakes. I dont remember the rest of the procedure. However, the next day I had severe lower back pain that didnt go away with tylenol. There was blood in my stool (which I had expected was from the removal of a large benign polyp). Then I ended up with a fever of 99.3. I went back to the doctor and he gave me some antibotics for a "bladder infection". Although i have had several bladder infections, I was not peeing frequently nor did I have a burning sensation. I am more worried that maybe my colon has been punctured in the procedure. Almost a week later, I still have lower back pain and have been on a liquid only diet as per my doctor. Is this normal? Help! I dont want to be a hypochondriac

I have had 12 colonoscopys ...I never had a reaction like yours , to any of them.

Im not sure , but it sure sounds like you need medical attention.

Thanks for you kind comment..

and your experience.

Like mine....sticking a camera up your bottom does not come without physical consequences..however. the outcome of a positive result is so much better than the anxiety and worry of not knowing..

take care of yourself and always look forward...

Life is great ....Two times cancer for me and life is still great.

rejoice in every moment...

Kind regards

John

Re: Post Colonoscopy Worries

I've gone out running after mine. (Don't tell my doctor. ) Did they cut anything out during the procedure? Normally that shouldn't even be a problem- in both of mine they found and removed polyps and even without sedation removing them wasn't painful. The pain you felt during the procedure might have been abdominal cramps, but I can't explain your infection afterwards. Then again, I'm not a doctor. Please continue to get medical attention if this hasn't gone away.
