hi im new to the forum, i had a colonoscopy yesterday because of blood and mucous in my stools, changes in my bm habits and some pain. the doc said that he found nothing sinister but he took 4 biopsies of different parts of the bowel. im confused. do they take biopsies anyway just to find a cause or do they take them because they see something wrong? i have to wait until july for follow up so its too long to wait for some reassurance. thank you for any replies
I had sigmoidoscope for constant diareah. Nothing unusual found and no biopsies taken. Perhaps they want to check just to make sure as there are many conditions that inflame colon. No news is good news

Thanks tony for replying. perhaps they need to find a reason for the bleeding so thats why they did biopsies. a friend had 1 done a few years ago because of similar symptoms but they didnt do biopsies. That had me worried.
hmmmm, the thought of cancer has crossed my mind most definately esp when i read the forums and saw people of my age and younger getting diagnosed. sometimes they're symptoms werent even as serious as mine. realistically though its probably an infection of some sort! fingers crossed. still no word after 8 days. the irish health systo is crap.
Ive had two colonoscopys now and the first one he see nothing and took biopsies and they was fine the second they see inflammation and took 7 so im worried to. but i think they are different as they might just take biopsies to just double check whilst there in there so to speak, hope this helps
