ColoVantage DNA Blood Test for colorectal cancer
While getting routine blood work done for a physical I saw a pamphlet in the lab about the ColoVantage DNA Test for colorectal cancer. I went back to my doctor's office (he is an internist and a gastroenterologist) and had the nurse ask him if he would add the test to my blood work orders and he did.
I go back in a week for the actual physical. Has anyone had this test done? What happened?
I know that it isn't as accurate as a colonoscopy, but I figure it has to be better than doing nothing. I am aware of the statistics regarding the test's accuracy and rate of false positives, but am not sure whether I am allowed to post them here.
I wanted to add - I know that if someone had symptoms they should definitely get the colonoscopy, and the company itself says that a colonoscopy is the thing to do, but they are encouraging people who otherwise wouldn't get a general screening colonoscopy to do this rather than do nothing.
