Question need advice

about a month ago i started with pain in my lower abdomen
i did the normal doctor visit, then gyn, then urology (all with scan's sonagrams etc)
they found nothing
i also have crohn's disease so i have a gastro guy already
the pain was not the same as crohn's normal is though
so last friday we did a colonoscopy ( not my first as you can imagine what with crohn's- and my mom having had colon canser-surgery etc )
during the procedure he found a mass ( not a polyp ) in my distal descending colon
he did biopsy's - which i got the results yesterday
he send they were for all intents and purposes benign
i asked what that meant he said since he did not biopsy the core he could not say 100% for sure
he is suggesting that i let him go back in and scrape out the tumor
but everything i have read talks about rsection when there is a tumor
so i need soem advice as to which way i should go
and what questiosn i should ask
i go tommorrow for a consultation with him
should i also get a surgeons opinion or is jsut going to say resection becasue that is what he does ?
confused and nervous about not totally removing it ( what if it comes back )

Re: need advice

If you are not comfortable with the information you have received definitely get a second opinion. There is no reason to feel unsure about the best path for your medical issues. Sending caring supportive thoughts your way.

Re: need advice

update

at meeting with gastro guy he now says that surgery is indicated
my primary doc also called all freaked out after she got a copy of the results
she also says surgery is indicated
i now have an appointment with a surgeon in two weeks
they are both saying it is supsicous now
after doing a lot of reading up i guess i agree that it shoudl definately come out
jsut hope they can do it laproscopically
seems like recovery is much shorter that way
wish me luck

Re: need advice

I'm glad that you feel more comfortable with the next step. Sorry it didn't turn out that all of them were wrong, lol. Otoh there is peace of mind that comes from similar reports from multiple physicians. Sending a caring hug of support your way.

Re: need advice

It sounds like you have three medical opinions that agree on what's needed. Being scared is the normal reaction when facing surgery and the unknown aftermath. I have not had to face the colectomy issue but I have read alot of posts here from people who had to go that route and my impressions are that (l) adapting to the bag is difficult at first but "not all that bad" once the shock of it pases and (2) alot of people are later able to get rid of the bag with a follow up procedure.

I'm sorry that you have to face this but hope you have a good medical team that inspires your confidence and that they schedule you promptly so you can begin to move forward in your healing. Let us know how you're doing.

Re: need advice

kitty, I am glad you will have the surgery now....don't be afraid. I had several polyps last September 18th, One was obviously cancerous, 2 others were suspicious. I saw a specialist and was told they wanted to cut out the large intestine and gave me the option of choosing a complete down to the anus or a partial, I chose the complete to make sure I would not have to worry about recurrence in that area. I did not have to have an ostomy, thankfully and I recovered ok and too 6 mos of therapy...October I'll have my first check-up to see if I am still cancer cell free. Your doctor will help you to make the right decision for you....I wa very scared too it was not too bad and they got all th cancer and the big one was a stage 3. I am lucky so far. ((((hugs)))) to you.
