| | Ileostomy reversal
My partner has just had an ileostomy reversal and was in hospital for 10 days. After three days we were told the bowel was starting to work so he was put onto a fluid diet for a day. Unfortunately he began vomiting and we were advised the bowel was paralyzed so back onto sips/ice for three days. The bowel then appeared to start working so he went onto clear fluids for two days. The evening before he left the hospital he was given solid food, turkey then again toast and cornflakes in the morning and he was then discharged. We were advised he could eat the foods he used to before the ileostomy. He had cracker biscuits and cold meat for lunch and all seemed ok, however, that evening within an hour after eating a small meal of mashed potatoes (to help thicken his output) fish, carrots, peas(for the very first time since his first op) and a small piece of broccoli he was in intense pain After a couple of hours we had to rush to the Emergency Dept. His pain rated 10/10 at this point. The pain was managed by morphine which reduced it to 5/10 and eventually Myalanta which seemed to be the reason it went away. Has anyone else had a similar experience and any suggestions for what foods to avoid would be appreciated. He is due home today and I have to cook light foods for him.??
