Worried about colon cancer

Hi,

I'm a 47 year old man. I have been having pain deep in my rectum for a few weeks now. It is hard to sit and if I push my butt cheeks together the pain gets worse. I had a digital exam by a proctologist who didn't find anything and had no idea what the pain would be. He said I did have some internal hemorrhoids but this wouldn't be causing the pain. I also had a change in bowel movements (2 - 4 per day instead of one) and the stole was very thin. This happened for approx 1 week but has now gone back to normal. There is no blood. My doctor and proctologist are recommending a colonoscopy.

I'm worried that I may have colon cancer. Any ideas or thoughts?

Re: Worried about colon cancer

Hi,
It sounds more like IBS to me, if you were passing blood your Dr would have been more concerned. IBS can cause frequent bowel movements and also thin or ribbon=like stools along with or without pain in the rectum or stomach.
Your Dr is wise to sugest a Colonoscopy, I have had two and was diagnosed with Diverticulitis and IBS.
Your problem does not sound like C.C, but I'm not a Dr and my advice is to have that Colonoscopy for peace of mind.
Hope this helps and all the best,

Solofelix.

Re: Worried about colon cancer

Evidently you have health insurance. Just go for it! No...it is not alot of fun but it is not painful or life disrupting. If you have been recommended for a colonoscopy get it scheduled instead of worrying about what might or might not be. They have pills now that you can take with lots of water so you don't even have to worry about the "yucky tasting" prep meds. You will be sound fast assleep when the test is done. There is no pain. There is no embarrassment. Thank heavens you can afford to do it...and do it. You will be glad you did.
