Re: Kidney cancer surgery schedualed for 6/29/10

While I myself have not had the surgery, I can tell you about my cousin's donation to my, and my friend's husband's donation to her. In both cases, they were tired for quite a while after and told to not work for about 6 weeks. As with my own surgery, they were not allowed to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds, also for 6 weeks. It may take a while for the remaining kidney to pick up the slack, but most folks live just fine with only one kidney (that is why living kidney donation works).

The surgery can be painful, but there are good drugs available while in the hospital, and both of my examples did fine with OTC pain meds afterwards.

Hope this helps a bit.

Re: Kidney cancer surgery schedualed for 6/29/10

Thanks Cora for your reply. I am suppose to have surgery on June 29th at 8:30. I was told it would take about 2/12 to 3 hours. and be in the hospital for about 4 or 5 days. And YES the doctor said there will be a lot of pain. Do you know of any one on this board that has had a three kidneys with one being a double Kidney?? the mast is on the double kidney.

Thanks Dee
