Re: Kidney cancer surgery schedualed for 6/29/10
While I myself have not had the surgery, I can tell you about my cousin's donation to my, and my friend's husband's donation to her. In both cases, they were tired for quite a while after and told to not work for about 6 weeks. As with my own surgery, they were not allowed to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds, also for 6 weeks. It may take a while for the remaining kidney to pick up the slack, but most folks live just fine with only one kidney (that is why living kidney donation works).
The surgery can be painful, but there are good drugs available while in the hospital, and both of my examples did fine with OTC pain meds afterwards.
Hope this helps a bit.
