They found a mass on my kidney today...
I'm usually found over on the addiction/recovery board, but today I went to the ER this morning with abdominal pain on my right side and they did an ultrasound. I was shocked to hear I have a lesion on my left kidney. The report says "A hypoechoic lesion is seen in the left kidney and does not represent a simple cyst. Neoplasm is not excluded, and this could be reevaluated with a dedicated CT or MRI." It then goes on to say "A hypoechoic structure with some internal echogenicity is seen in the left kidney and measure approximately 2.0 x 1.7 x 1.4 cm" Of course, in looking up the word neoplasm, I learned it means tumor. There were two other things they picked up as well...my liver is enlarged and my common bile duct is dilated to 9 mm but there is no evidence of gallstones.
I was in the ER in January and the lesion on my kidney wasn't there, so it seems to me that it came about pretty fast. I had the option of being admitted or going home and following up with my PCP, but I didn't know what to do, so they contacted my dr. and he said he'd arrange an MRI. I went home with some pain and nauseau meds but now I'm wondering if I shoud have stayed so maybe I'd know? I can't stand not knowing, and I don't know when the MRI is scheduled for yet. I had microscopic red blood cells in my urine at a routine test a few months ago, but a followup didn't show kidney stones. I don't have a fever or low back pain, but I've lost a lot of weight (30lbs. in the last year), am tired all the time, have no appetite, and lots of digestive problems. Other recent symptoms are very light colored stools (very pale tan), painful gas and bloating, and I just noticed I have all these little red spots on my legs (mostly my knees), I believe they're called petechia (sp?). I don't know if any of those things are related or due to something else.
I would sure appreciate your thoughts, input, and how you were diagnosed...is an MRI the way to go now or should they just biopsy it? I don't know and there's sooooo much info on the internet that I just get overwhelmed trying to decipher it.
Thanks for anything you can offer cause I'm freaking out!
