Question How long can we expect- vomiting black

Hi, my 47 year old sister has stage 1V lung cancer with metastisis to the hip skull and liver. She has stopped eating and occasionally vomits black matter. Mentally she is extremely tired but still speaking normally. She is on liquid morphine. Does anyone have any idea how long we can expect. Thank you for any help you can give us.

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. Although everyone is different I can tell you about my dad. He was stage IV with mets to the hip. He was vomiting black matter about a month before he passed away. He was vomiting about twice a day then it would go away. We knew it was real close when his mind started going. That happened 24/48 hours before he passed away. Stay strong, you have a long road ahead. My thoughts and prayers are with you and if you ever need questions answered or just some comfort you know where to come. This is a wonderful place to come, people understand what you are going through because they have been there themselves.
Take care,
K.

Re: How long can we expect- vomiting black

My mom was vomitting black/green matter - I kept calling the onc. office and he kept saying that was common with a lot of terminal patients. This went on for about 2 weeks "constantly" if she drank water later she would vomit and it would be green / black. When it was time for her appt. her doctor did a scan in the office and discovered she had a bowel obstruction. He admitted her at once saying that if it "ruptured" it would be very painful. Mom was admitted into the hospital where they inserted a nasogastric tube down to the stomach area and suctioned the "packed obstruction" out- she stayed about 2 days and was much better, comfort wise I mean. You may ask the doc. if they think this may be what is wrong with your sis- and if so does he suggest anything different. Still praying for you dear.-- Hope B.

My sister went in with what she thought was a sinus infection and swelling around her eye on February 15. During there exam they found the cancer in her lungs. She had been coughing for several years and last summer started complaining of hip pain. She has never taken very good care of herself. So she's probably had it for quite some time. Thanks for writing back
