Just Got Back From Doc Appt

My Grandfather Had A Doc Appt Today I Thought We Should Know More, But We Don't They Are Sending Him For A Test, They Said That They Will Put A Needle In His Chest To Get Fliud From The Mass And That Was It.i Geuss This Is A Long Waiting Game. I Hate Not Knowing Anything.they Did Take Blood And Did A Breathing Test To See What His Breathing Was Like I Guess.the Other Test Is Tomorrow I Did Ask The Doc If There Was A Chance This Could Be Something Else Because They Are Not Talking He Said (oh Yeah But He Did Have Colon Cancer We Have To Think Of That.) But The Other Doc Said It Was Cancer Why Would He Say That.i Am Very Confussed.HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR US TO KNOW THE RESULTS OF THE TEST.

Re: Just Got Back From Doc Appt

coping;
Sometimes these tests do take time, (mainly due to scheduling conflicts) but never let up on pushing then to be avid at scheduling them and getting them done asap. The needle biopsy will tell them many things, such as if it is cancer, if it is, the type ,if its the primary site, or if this is a metas. from another location. If he is having breathing problems they may need to drain fluid to help him breath easier....
It can be a wait game, I have gone through this also. I did learn at the beginning to list my questions and get answers before I left. Many times I had to call and recall and get a little pushy when I didnt get clear answers. I spent allot of time researching things on the net also, and comming in here for support.
How old is your granfather? when did he have colon cancer? did they feel he was cured after his therapy? I you will be in my thoughts. Mattie

Re: Just Got Back From Doc Appt

As Lady said, be proactive. The liklihood of cancer sounds strong, but there are also benign masses. The lung biopsy (the needle biopsy) will answer a lot of questions.

Next will likely be a pet scan to see how far the cancer might have spread. But, colon cancer doesn't necessarily mean that it's a mets from the colon. Not if that had been treated. You don't say if the colon cancer was recent or treated long ago.

Stay on them, write down your questions, and push for answers. Time is the key factor in treating cancer. It needs treated quickly and aggressively.

Good luck

Re: Just Got Back From Doc Appt

My Dad was diagnosed with colon/rectal cancer last April. He went for surgery in May and they removed his whole colon, rectum & prostrate. My Dads surgeon also said that she was sure she got it all and that she was pleased to find that it had not spread to his lymph nodes. We knew prior to surgery that my Dad had three spots on his lungs that may or may not be anything. When we asked the surgeon if she meant the spots were not cancerous she clarified that they had got everything that they knew was cancer and we would deal with the spots later. So after about 8 weeks recovery he finally had his lung biopsy and found that they were indeed mets from the rectal cancer. One of my Dads tumors had positioned itself in the space between the lungs and he did have COPD so they were not operable.

I know the waiting time for tests and answers it absolutely terrible!

I will be thinking of you and your Grandfather. Good Luck!
