Am So Scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Cancer: Lung Message Board

My husband has small cell lung cancer that has metastised to the liver and spine (as far as we know now....those are only places affected). He was diagnosed last May '04. He had extensive chemo and radiation treatments. I kept him dosed up with many herbs and vitamins including Essiac, Noni Juice, Graviola, Red Raspberry (Ellagic Acid), Maitake D-Fraction, Beta Glucan, Garden of Life's Perfect Food, HSO's, Super seed, and sooooo many more I can't name. He never had any reaction to chemo at all. No sickness, no weight loss, no fatigue, blood count didn't decrease any significant amount. Doctor was/is shocked. His CT scan kept showing such decrease in cancer size in his lungs till doctor kept saying "I don't understand it, I just don't understand it". The Doc. put him thru chemo over and above what he said he has done with any other patient because he said it wasn't affecting him in any bad way, except for attacking the cancer. Those extra 9 treatments didn't cause any adverse affects either. Doc was further shocked. Anyway, that is all fine and good, but I give the power of prayer the credit (the Lord's intervention, I believe). BUT, he is scheduled for another lung CT scan the end of this month. It will be three months since all chemo was stopped the end of this month. I have tried not to be freightened, but I am. SCLC has a very poor prognosis. He cries and asks God to let him live. It hurts to the very depths of my being, to see him go thru this. Although he breezed thru chemo and radiation so smoothly, I just can't imagine what it must feel like emotionally for him..... just knowing, wondering, hoping, and praying. It is so hard and traumatic for me, oh......I just can't imagine. My heart goes out to anyone suffering with this (or any other cancer or affliction). I just had to vent. I am so worried and freightened about this CT scan the end of this month. Wonder why the Doc. isn't doing a whole body scan? It seems that would tell him whether it has spread to any other areas. But, he is only doing a lung scan. Doesn't make sense to me.

Be proactive.

Insist on a fullbody pet scan to check for other potential hot spots.

Hi Kipper,
I'm so sorry you and your husband are going through this. I know what you guys are going through, my sister was diagnosed with SCLC (mestasis in liver and possible brain) last November. She also is doing pretty well with the chemo, and is due to have scans in a few days. I know this type of cancer has a bad long-term prognosis, but I also believe in the power of prayer. I will say a prayer for your husband that his scans come out well.

Please try not to let the worry take over. Let us know how you are doing.

I thank you so much for your reply. And thank you too, ShadowRose for your reply. It means a lot to me. I also need prayer. I usually can hardly go myself (physically). Had traumatic head injury years ago (car accident) which put me in rehab. for one year to relearn life. Could not do anything, knew nothing (no past, present, short term was destroyed). Had back injury also from same car accident. Have seizures as a result, developed high blood pressure, hypothalamus was damaged which makes weight loss impossible no matter how little is eaten, etc. Have learned to live with that part. For last few weeks, have had to push myself to keep going and have to push to keep going physically. Back is sooo bad till usually can not walk, and also bad knees. Well, for last couple of weeks, have had deep, hurting under right breast bone which radiates thru to my back that hurts when lift right arm. The area of pain has been in upper back on left side (in area behind left lung) for a couple of years now, now it is in both sides which would place it behind both lungs. Pain and severe soarness up and down back bone. I have asthma and am sooo afraid of lung cancer especially since this hurting in my right side has been so bad. I am so freightened. I have to stay well for my husband. I am so afraid. Why is life so hard?

Please try not to worry, about your pain, get it checked out. You may discover that you have osteoporosis, which is no picnic, but usually is not as bad as cancer either. Please know that I am praying for life to be kinder to you.
