help for a friend - Cancer: Lung Message Board

hello, i am just asking a few questions for a friend, and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. he is 63, and was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer last december. he has gone through chemo and radiation, and the tumor in his lung is gone, yet now there is a finger lenght tumor in the bone between his neck and shoulder. he has had his maximum amount of radiation, and he has just started his second round of chemo, which the doctors say is not for a cure, yet only to slow down the growth of the cancer, not to extend life, only to improve the quality of life. i was wondering if anyone has tried and had any success with any form of alternative treatments. his funds are limited, as he is a retired veteran, and has only been able to go to the v.a. hospitals for treatment....i have recently read some about IPT therapy, and ozone therapy, which a doctor in oak park, ill. provides. has any tried this route with any success? i want to find anything for him, anything promising, but i dont want to suggest someting that will bring him hope, and ultimatley have it be some time of scam to only take whatever money he does have.
if anyone has had any success with this or any other type of alternative treatment, your help would be greatly appreciated, and id be eternally greatful. thank you for your time.

So many alternative therapies are scams. "If it looks too good to be true it probably is." However, what I would strongly recommend is looking at nutrition and supplements. There are books out there about beating cancer with nutrition. It's strongly believed that sugar (both refined and natural) must be completely avoided. I have read many testimonials on cancer patients who had success with microbiotic diets. This diet does allow some fruit but for a cancer patient should be avoided. As far as supplements it would be wise to see a Nutritionist who specializes in cancer patients or find a book written by one. Your friend should not depend completely on the medical establishment. Find out as much as you can about foods that starve cancer. Good Luck.

thank you michael for your reply, it is greatly appreciated.
i have heard about sugar, and that is why is was wondering about the IPT, as i believe, glucose is combined with chemo and injected, and the glucose draws out the cancer cells making the chemo more effective....or somthing to that effect....i will look more into diet...no fuits? what about any carbohydrate, do they not break down into sugar, or is that only simple, not complex?
