chemo; is it the answer? - Cancer: Lung Message Board

I have heard a few people mention that chemo is a cruel way to cure a disease when it is really uncurable. MY DAD HAS SMALL CELL LUNG CANCER WHICH HAS SPREAD TO HIS BRAIN. He is a real fighter and not ready to give up even through depression, nausea, lack of hope by professionals, pain, hair loss, mouth sores ect. When I see him after he has went without chemo for two weeks and he actually eating and feeling a bit better I wonder, considering his chances....whether it is time to try alternative medicine or other therapy. I am not ready for good bye but I hate the suffering. It consumes me when I want so much to help him.

How is your dad doing? Has is mouth sores gotten any better? I do not have any suggestions as far as the alternative go. I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you. My dad also has small cell. God Bless.

I can only tell you from the experience I had with my mom having lung cancer and doing chemo that it was brutal on her. Looking back I think I would have preferred it if we had sought out some alternative care rather than chemo. ALSO I now believe diet is the key to beating cancer. Low sugar/protein diets that are high in anti-oxidants - consult a dietician on this one.

Two places come to mind - Mayoi Clinic (expensive) and there is a new place I think called Cancer Center for America.

I too had a father with incurable cancer. He chose chemo and I was silent. The chemo made his last days worse then they would have been. A daughter will always suffer until it tears her apart wanting to help...do something...never ready to say goodbye.
My heart breaks again to read of your situation. I can only tell you it makes no difference what you want, it's what you have to accept. Help him with your love, hugs and many long talks. Laugh and make him laugh too. My best to you truely..many thoughts from another lost daughter.
