coincidence - maybe not--HELP!!!!!! - Cancer: Lung Message Board

As most of you know both my mom and dad have adenocarcinoma (NSCLC). Mom is 66 and has been smoking for at least 50 years - Dad was 60 (he passed last Sat. 5/3)and he smoked for about 15 years and had not smoked since 1987. I just found out as neighbors came to my parents home to pay their respects after hearing about Dad passing away - that several other area neighbors died from the same cancer that had spread like wildfire. My parents have several acres of land in Mississippi right over the stateline of Tn. as I was driving home last night I remembered being younger and "roaming" through the woods near my parents home and coming up on a vacant lot that backed up diagonally to my parents - that was a natural gas lot. I found it last night again it is still there. It is fenced off and doesn't have any signs warning about cancer but the odor of natural gas is nearly too strong to stay around for very long. Any suggestions from you guys as to where I should start to see if there is any connection? Neighbors on both sides of my parents have lost a spouse as well as the neighbor across the street from my parents - I find it very coincidental. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks to everyone. - Hope B.

Ya know, you may just be on to something here...I too have felt the same as you..for some reason there are tons of people coming down with Lupus (and Autoimmune disease) where I used to live..seems odd!
I'm sorry you haven't got any more post than this...I haven't got a post on my last question on the board and it makes me so upset....should I even be asking questions here if they don't reply..geez...

I just saw your post, and I hope you see mine, since you may have given up waiting for answers.
There is DEFINITELY a connection between natural gas and lung cancer.

Natural gas contains benzo(a)pyrene which has been linked more than casually to lung cancer. Use Google and type in "lung cancer" "natural gas" and you'll come up with lots of leads.

First of all natural gas has no smell. You may have a busted gas line that should be reported.
I am ready to call the EPA myself. I never realized how many people in my area were dying from cancer, but I did notice the dogs were all dying very young. Ford Motor Co. Foundry and the airport near me...
Sorry that you aren't getting many replies but lately we here on the board have had a rough time with our families passing...Cheryl

Hope,it sounds very suspicious. It's a big coincidence for 2 people in the same household to have the same disease, but half the neighbourhood too? That is more than coincidence and you really must contact someone about it. If there is something out there causing all this illness then something has to be done to put a stop to it now. I know it has come too late to help your poor parents but just think of how many other people you may be preventing from having to go through what your family have suffered. Please, for their sakes, as well as your own, get it checked out. It's much better to be safe than sorry. Good luck and God bless, Ann.
