Post please respond before I go crazy

I am a 28 year old female and have smoked pot and tobacco for 10 years now. I have been coughing up flem with light brown yucky stuff in it for a while now. I switched to american spirit tobacco thinking it was healthier for me. A month ago when I coughed up that yucky stuff there was blood in it. It scared the **** out of me. Since then I have quit smoking completely. I am still coughing up yucky stuff and I thought I noticed a tiny bit of blood once or twice but Im not sure.Occasionaly at night I get this stabbing pain in my right upper back that kind of shoots up my neck. It feels like major stress pains because I am under major stress right now. I think I have lung cancer. I am so scared. Somebody please respond. Has this ever happened to you? I thought my lungs were just cleaning themselves out. I dont have a bad cough and I get shortness of breath if I exert myself from running up a hill. I need to know that I am not the only person out there with these problems. I have serious anxiety and I need to be comforted somebody please respond.

Somebody please respond I need your help. I went to the emergency room and they sent me home because I am pregnant. I have spoken with my physician and she is telling me that I am fine and there is nothing wrong with me. How do they know? They told me that it would be extremely rare for me to have lung cancer at this age no matter how much I have smoked. What is wrong with me the ? Is it all mental? I dont understand.

HI

I was told that it would be extremely rare for me to have lung cancer at my age - I was told by one doctor to go home and "watch" things -

I refused that bit of advice, and went on with the next step , which at the time, was having a biopsy run of the little tiny spot they had found - it turned out it WAS cancer.

I got lung cancer at age 38- supposedly very rare - BUT since I've had it, I've met LOTS of people in their early , mid, and late 30s with lung cancer - they are all rare too? I've met twice as many in their early and mid 40s with it - it is unbelievable the numbers.

I know of two teenagers with lung cancer - now THAT is rare - I know of several in late twenties and barely 30 crowd with it- it happens and when it is you, it isn't rare anymore, you know?

If the phlegm you cough up has brownish or red speckles you have cause for concern.

I had that sometimes - but the main and only problem I had that would count as a symptom was getting bronchitis every year.

How soon are you due? They won't want to do tests on a pregnant woman -

A cat scan will show tiny spots of cancer - one to two years before it will show up on xray - but they won't want to do cat scan until you deliver, most likely -

You need to go to a different doctor. My Mom has cancer and it started in the colon and now after being told she was "cancer free" it has shown up in the lining around the lung. You can't take chances. She was in the hospital a couple years ago for just one night after having a dizzy spell and passing out. She had anemia and should have been checked for colon cancer, but was not. You really have to take this into your own hands and find out as much information as possible. I don't know how your healthcare plan works, but if you can you should see a Pulmonary specialist right away. My Mom was not honest with the doctors either about other symptoms she had. She also has had pain in her back and shoulder that shoots into her neck. I wish she had gone in sooner, but you are so young they could help you. I am sorry for you and hope you find the help you need. Don't let the anxiety get the best of you though. I wish you luck and there are so many things they can do now, so don't lose hope.

have you stopped smoking?

i get that brown stuff in my phlem sometimes too. i've been smoking pot for the last 3 years but i recently quit because, like you mentioned, i started coughing up a little bit of brown stuff. though i think it just may be all the junk in your lungs and they are cleaning themselves out. that has happened to me before. after a while, there is no more brown stuff in my phlem.

shortness of breath comes naturally with smoking. you may just be paranoid. but again, like blondey said, you may just want to go to a pulmonary doctor to get a clear diagnosis.

stop smoking .

Re: please respond before I go crazy

Dear "mom":

I am 35, have been a heavy smoker for years, they just found a 5mm nodule in upper left lung. Tell me, did they tell you to "wait and watch" also? they are telling me to wait 3 months before getting another xray. They say the spot might "possibly" be a "vascular shadow". There has to be something they can do, instead of waiting 3 months?

I have been unable to have any x-rays done because I am pregnant. What is a nodule? I have no idea. I finally found a doc who prescribed amoxocillin and diagnosed me with bronchitis. Since I took 10 days worth I have not coughed anything up that is brown or speckled with blood. That was a few months ago. I also cut down the smoking immensley. The only problems I have now is lung congestion when I try to take a deep breath every time I am laying down. I have no idea what it is and nobody else seems to know either. Someone suggested chronic bronchitis and I just want it to go away. I have become to distrust Doctors and I think it is hard to find one who really knows his stuff. I dont care if they think I am crazy I am willing to go to any extent to make sure I am healthy with no questions left unanswered. If that means going for a second, third, and fourth opinion so be it. I think you should go for a second opinion too. We must take care of ourselves.
