Can a CT scan always catch cancer?

Can a CT scan always catch cancer or can it no appear on the scan, we are talking about two scan with three months in between and shadow on lung is still there, is it possible it's just scaring from a bad cold or is there a chance that the CT scan missed the cancer.

I appreciate your response.

if there is even a doubt that there is a shadow there then more tests should be done.....lung cancer must be caught early.....there are many things that can show up on scans......pursue it further if you have doubts....

Re: Can a CT scan always catch cancer?

In answer to your question, yes in my sister's experience a x-ray as well as a CAT scan did not catch her lung cancer, a PET scan did show the cancer and naturally then a biopsy was done to determine it. And yes, scars and old phneumonia can look like cancer. My son in laws father was told recently after a CAT scan that it appeared he has lung cancer. They did a biopsy and determined he does NOT have lung cancer. He does however have kidney cancer and they are going to remove that kidney next week. It pays to question, question everything to death.

Re: Can a CT scan always catch cancer?

I had my right lung removed last december for cancer. They thought I had pneumonia in Sept and OCt and someone finally suggested an xray. Then a cat scan and before I could fathom what was happening, I had lost a lung with a 6-7 mm tumor! I am in physical therapy now and I have a cat scan scheduled in June and an appt. with Oncologist. I am praying I am cancer free. AThe reason I answered you is that my cancer was caught with the at scan. I went thru so many scans to see if my left lung could support my breathing if they took my right lung. I am 5 months into breathing with one lung. I can only tell you to do as many tests as they will allow. Get a good surgeon who knows what he is doing. Gods speed. Dolly
