noncalcified nodule in right upper lobe of lung

i'm a 51 yr old female diagnosed in '93 with moderate emphysema in both lungs. have been feeling run down, achy, etc. since september of '04. had a chest x-ray done several months ago that showed nothing but the emphysema. then 2 wks ago had ct scan done which shows a 3 cm adrenal mass & a .7 cm noncalcified nodule in the right upper lobe in the periphery. since these discoveries my primary care lady has sent me to 2 specialists. i'm not proud of the fact that i've smoked for over 30 yrs, but it is what it is... my question, should this nodule that didn't show a few mos ago on a chest x-ray be more than just a small concern?

Hello! I am sorry you are going through this. I just wanted to let you know that I had a chest x-ray that was perfectly clear but an 8 mm nodule was discovered in my right middle lobe via CT scan. These were done the same day. It was there when I had the x-ray but due to its position was only viewable on the CT scan. So perhaps this what has happened to you.

They did indicate it on my report so maybe you could ask your doctor if this is the case.

Take care,
Monica

as the previous poster stated, small nodules usually don't show up on a routine x-ray, but are found upon doing a Cat Scan.

With a 30 year smoking history, no nodule should be ignored.
