Im 19 Years Old - Have I Got Lung Cancer? Please Help! - Cancer: Lung Message Board

Hi all, I am new to this message board. I discovered it through searching for the sympoms of lung cancer on google.

I am 19 years old and have been smoking since I was just over the age of 16. I wouldnt say I am a heavy heavy smoker, but I am heavy enough. Probably around 10-20 a day. Now...........

Just to let you know before I go on, people have often called me a hypocondreact because apparently I complain that there is always something wrong with my body, but I dont see it that way at all... Just because I am worried about my body and my health, and go see my doctor with everything that I think is wrong with me, doesn't make me a bad person.

Over the past few days/week, I have had a muscle pain sensation on the right side of my back, where the shoulder and shoulder blade meet under the right arm or around that area). It is not sore when I breathe, but only sometimes it can be a bit sore. Also, when I started reading up about the symptoms of lung cancer, I came across a lot of symptoms such as coughing up blood or rusty phlem, bone or joint pain, coughing that keeps getting worse, fatigue and excess weight loss. Back to the hypocondreact thing....

I THINK that I may have started to lose some weight because of the fact that i used to have a tight right calf and all of a sudden it has completely loosened up along with my whole body, I used to feel really tight, but i just feel completely loose right now. I wouldnt describe it as a weekness as such, but it is a weird sensation, is this all just in my head from reading these symptoms? can you actually convince yourself that you have symptoms when you really dont, or there are other reasons for them?

What I am really trying to say is, DO YOU THINK THAT FROM THE INFORMATION THAT I HAVE JUST SUPPLIED YOU WITH, THAT THERE IS A CHANCE THAT I COULD POSSIBLY HAVE LUNG CANCER AT MY AGE?

PLEASE REPLY TO THIS, AS I AM REALLY WORRIED AND I AM STARTING TO GET REALLY DOWN WITH MYSELF! THANKS ALL!

Besides the muscle aches and pain, what other symptoms do you have? I highly doubt you have lung cancer. I think you should try to stop smoking. It will help improve the circulation to all parts of your body (including your muscles).

The Safest and best thing you can do to find an answer to your question is go to your Family Dr. and ask for an X-ray. That should give you an answer to the cancer question. If the pain is in the shoulder area it couuld be arthritis in the Clavicle area. My wife has Lung cancer and arthritis in her shoulder. Good Luck and do this for your own piece of mind.QUIT SMOKING. We walked out of a surgeons office 2.5 years ago and went cold turkey when she was diagnosed. You wouldn't believe the med bills since then from Chemo and Radiation Therapy. Keep us posted

Thanks for your reply, it was much appreciated. I went to the A&E in the hospital because of the weight loss and the shoulder/back pain. They gace me an ECG heart test and they told me that my heart was "completely healthy & strong", they gave me a breathing test and said that my breathing levels were "99%" which is better than most peoples, and they gave me a Chest X Ray and said that my lung and chest looked completely "healthy". They also told me that they think my problem lies with anxiety problems. But why am i losing weight? Why am i never really hungry anymore? It is just completely "melting my head". Sorry for being annoying guys, but it helps talking to you people, you's are a great help! Cheers

Just a couple notes: smoking is terrible. Now would be the perfect time to stop. Also, if you are truly imagining symptoms and diseases, you might want to seek psychiatric help. If you are this paranoid, there could be something wrong mentally.

PS- It's spelled "hypochondriac"
