Hi sorry to hear about your mom. I know it is a hard road to be on as my mom ,a non smoker has stage IV NSCLC. My advice to you is do not go by any time tables the doctors tell you as they really do not know. My mom is now a 16 month survivor and despite being back on chemo is doing very well. There are so many new drugs and other treatments such as cyberknife out there that you just do not know what tomorrow will bring. Tarvceva and now Alimta both became available just in time to benefit my mom . Had she been diagnosed a year earlier she may not have lived long enough to have the chance to take either of these drugs. Search the different message boards about mesothelioma and you will learn alot more from those that have it then you will from the doctors. There is a good book called "Surviving Cancer" by Margie Levine. She is a mesothelioma survivor ( 12years when she wrote the book) and back when she was diagnosed people did not survive meothelioma .All these years later there are better drugs , radiation and surgeries available then she had available to her. We read it even though it is a different type of lung cancer then NSCLC as it was so inspirational and showed that doctors indeed do not know everything. It really gives you hope when the doctors offer you none. Best of luck to you and your mom and keep us posted as everyone here understands what you are going through and this is a great place to turn to to learn or to just scream if that is what you need to do. I will add you mom to my ever growing list of prayers. ----JanMarie
