Update - Good News - Cancer: Lung Message Board

Hi everyone!

Brief history - I was told I had an 8mm nodule in my right upper lung in May of this year (found via CT scan). Had follow up in late August and it showed it was 9.6mm. Had a bronchoscopy the following week and everything came back negative.

I had my third CT scan last week and I haven't seen the pulmonologist yet but my mom pulled the report off the hospital's computer and these are the highlights:

- Right upper lung densely calcified with additional calcification involving mediastinum which is indicative of old granulomata disease

- No suspicious nodules greater than 8mm

- Normal hyperattenuation thyroid

- Benign appearing axillary lymph nodes

- Superior mediadtinum demonstrating stable evidence of old granulomata disease

- Calcification in the right hilum

- Right upper lobe calcfied granuloma (anterior)

I understand the calcified granuloma, but I don't understand why it's in the mediastinal/hilar area in addition to being in the lung itself, nor what that means, why it's there, and why this wasn't noted on the other CT scans, and what the progression means.

Overall, I am RELIEVED like crazy. I've been worried about this for 6 months.

So, no cancer. I am so happy.

Monica, this is really good news. You have been in my thoughts often and hoped your tests were coming back negative. Sometimes the waiting can absolutely kill a person, but unfortunately sometimes that's how these things progress. I'll keep a thumbs up for you, and take good care of yourself.

Thank you so much for reading and caring. I got the "almost all clear" from my pulmonologist today. I have a follow up x-ray (not even a CT scan!) in 6 months, but he said everything looked great and I'm going to be fine.
