can anyone tell me about prognosis - Cancer: Lung Message Board

hi my dad has got a tumor that was apparently in his lungs then was pushed out and is now wrapped around his osphegus and wind pipe. It is 7X10 cm and just recently found out he has 6 small tumors in the brain. He won't tell me a real lot because he doesn't want to worry me but i need to know how long we may have him with us for so i can prepare myself and my family. Can any one help me with so info?

Mean survival rate when metastis found in brain is six months. This is what the Dr's tell you, everyone is different and no one knows but the good Lord when our loved ones will pass.
Make everyday count,take lots of pictures and make lots of memories,believe me this is what has helped me a lot. My husband died of SCLC in Feburary of this year.

thanks for your reply, What I would like to know from your experience, was it the cancer in the lungs or in the brain that took your husband. At this stage I don't know what to expect

Sorry to hear of your dad's diagnosis...always so heartbreaking to hear of another with this disease and it is all so overwhelming. My husband has SCLC and was diagnosed the first week of June 05 with the cancer throughout his body and in his brain. He is on his 3rd line of chemo and things are getting worse...but he has had some quality with our boys and with me and has laughed, but has also had some very tough days. My husband has been fortunate with the mets to the brain...the doctors are surprised he has no problems yet, but we know any day anything could happen so we enjoy each day we all have together. I do hope your dad will open up and share some more info with you, or maybe you could even go with your dad to the doctor.
Karen...this is for you...I think of you often and pray you are doing okay to get thru your loss. I am getting more scared as I see Stan getting worse everyday. He is such a fighter it amazes me. It is my birthday and he did everything he could to make it a very special weekend for me even though he was in pain. It just brings tears to me to see what he has done for me. You made me think how lucky he has survived this long since he has the brain mets all over and it will be a year in 1 1/2 weeks since his diagnosis. I just pray he won't be in so much pain! I hope you are taking care of yourself Karen...hugs to you.
Sorry Bonney but I needed to say a few words to Karen who got me thru some very tough times. Her husband had the same time of cancer mine has...SCLC. Oh, also find out what type of lung cancer does he have?

My husband's cancer started in his lungs,when he died he had mets to brain,kidney,liver,pancreas.
He had 15 WBR(whole brain radiation) ,and three different chemo cycles,but the cancer kept growing!!
Kim thank you for your kind words I am so glad I could help someone,God knows a lot of people on this very board helped me so much and I pray to God every night for the people who post here!! I am doing ok day by day some tough others not so tough,I miss Joe so very much and I never ever thought I would be a widow at the age of 45!!
I am blessed to have a great support in my family and friends,they keep me going if not for them and the words of encouragement from people on this board I doubt I would have made it this far!!
