I am new here

I am a 54 year old Male with ****....Around the 1st of the Month I started coughing up blood,so I went to the dr and he put me on an antibiotic and sceduled a bronchoscopy...which was done on the 22nd of May..After it was over he came out and told my wife and sister it was cancer, and the office would call in a day or 2 with the lab results...As of today they had not called,so I called them and they said it would be 2-3 weeks before they would get the results..Ok here is the thing...In Jan 05 this same dr did a bronchoscopy he came in the room and told me I had cancer...2 days later he came in and said it wasnt cancer it was an aspirated piece of vegetable..Since this dr was wrong before I dont know if I should be scared to death,or just wait till my appointment with him on June 26th to be scared...2 days after I went on the antibiotic I quit coughing up blood and everything has been clear since...And I am wondering why its 2-3 weeks this time for the reults and 2 days the last time...I also had a pet scan done in Feb 05 and it was negative...Any advice would be deeply appreciated

Wow some doctor you have .Why not find another one? He has now said you have cancer twice and was wrong the first time. You said they gave you a pet scan in Feb and it was clear. That in its self is great news. That test picks up the begginings of cancer cells also and though it isn't fail proof it is good news. I would just wait for the results and shop for a new Doctor.
I just reread your post and the Pet scan was done in 05. I just don't understand that doctors attitude. Doesn't he realize how he is playing with your emotions as well as your wifes. When my husband came down with LC the surgeon who preformed his bronchoscopy said it looked like cancer but he might be wrong and we got the results back in a week. Good luck and I hope he is wrong AGAIN.

Re: I am new here

I so know how you are feeling. I am having sort of the same experience with my pulmonologist. I was first told by a CT scan that I had some lung nodules and I needed to get a PET scan. The PET scan came back positive with metastisis to the hilar and mediastinal lymph nodes. I then made the appointment to see this pulmonologist. He told me that day not to worry that it could be something else other than cancer. He told me I was too young, but after searching many survivor sites, I realize age means nothing when it comes to lung cancer. Anyway, I have been going crazy the last couple of days thinking the doctor's office should have already called me with the results from my biopsy. I called his office today and the girl that answered the phone put me on hold forever and came back to tell me that the results were in but they were pending for review. I asked her what she meant by that. She told me that the doctor would review them and call me. Well, he didn't call today. Another sleepless night for me, worrying and waiting.
Definately find yourself another doctor. These doctors do not know everything. They make guesses a lot of the time.
Hope everything goes well with you and I am sorry you are having such a lousy time with this. (Time) What a precious word.
Lisa

I would love to find another dr,but the next nearest pulmonologist is a hundred miles away..This dr did have 2 other pulmonologist in with him,but both of them left a few months ago,and one of them was mine...This quack just happened to get a hold of me last year when mine was out of town... I have an appointment with my primary dr next week Maybe he can get somethin rolling

After my husband was diag with LC we were reffered to a surgeon and he was full of gloom. We then decided to get an ONC first and he reffered us to a great surgeon.Worst case for you and I doubt it but if it does turn out to be LC get yourself a good ONC and have him refer you to a surgeon that only does LC surgery. That indeed saved my husbands life.
