Hello all. I am new to this site and the situation and am looking for a bit of help. My 46 year old mom has been diagnosed with stage iv lung cancer. She has gone to the doctor three to four times a week for the last couple of weeks since her diagnosis, but still no treatment. I am getting more and more nervous. Every day is another day and the information from my research says that even with a good treatment results we still have a slight chance for having her more than two years. I have 2 teenage brothers who, along with me want to know the truth about what to expect. anyone?
Any advice or ancedotes would be welcomed. thanks in advance!!
My Mom was diagnoised with a tumor in her lung in 12/05. She did not start getting treatment until 4/06. The Dr's put her through many, many test before ever coming up with a treatment plan. Who knows if it would be any different if they had started earlier, but it it to late to second guess them now. I know what you are going through, and my thoughts are with you.
My grandma had lung cancer. They did for the first couple of weeks run tests to see where it had spread, and other necessary information. Don't be worried thats usually the process. If you want to know her prognosis, sit down with her oncologist and ask him/her. If her doctors are not fully answering your questions, then I would find a different doctor for treatment.
Hi. I'm very sorry to hear of your Mom's Dx. It sounds like the Doctors want to be very cautious as to how to treat your mom. This is not necessarily a bad thing.
I have been DX with Stage IV lung cancer as well. We are all unique- all having various degrees of fitness, co occuring health issues, and ability to manage the harsh toxic drugs administered to us. I wish there was one text book answer as to when to treat and how. Unfortunately, cancer is a very complex disease.
I truly understand how we become lost waiting for answers. I have spent the last year waiting for the other shoe to drop. Recently I have committed myself to live life as full as possible. I'm grateful to be here. I'm living with cancer- not dying from it.
From what I was told, the cancer doesn't spread "that" fast, so a couple of weeks are no big deal really. My mom had brain mets, and they had to remove the tumor, recovery time, therapy, and radiation.... , additional scans through the body etc, then they started her chemo. After those 2 chemos, she shrunk 30%.................so, be patient!
