First margin taken from Dads arm was adnexal Carcinoma. - Cancer: Lung Message Board

He had a second margin taken out and we were told he was clear.

FFwd a year and dad has now been diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. He has a tumor on his right lung and cancer cells in his plura. <sp?> This has also metastasized to his brain, six lesions, and also to his spine. The oncologist has confirmed the orgin was his arm. Not sure if I should be mad at the dermatologist or not. They say this is very rare and hard to diagnose which is why the second margin came back clear. So this "thing" on his arm turned out to be malignant, great now what do we do.

Dad quit smoking in 1977 and was healthy ever since. He just turned 61 Saturday but he is a changed man now and it's sad for my mom and I, especially not knowing what to expect. They have been married for 41 years and I am the only kid, spoiled if you must know! They tell us that he has about a year.

All the narcotic's he's taking constipate him then they throw in more drugs for constipation...vicious circle! He is not eating as he has a hard enough time getting the pills down and most of the time he throws them back up. He's afraid to eat as he is tired of getting sick after eating if you call eating one pancake eating. He doesn't drink much either and I am thinking that dehydration will cause him additional problems?
Ugh, what a horrible time in our lives for me, my mom and every other person that does not deserve this!

He finished the whole brain radiation a couple weeks ago and last Tuesday had his first Chemo session. Not sure if that stuff is making him feel the way he does or if it's the cancer. They keep telling us that's normal..sure! My dad keeps asking when does the quality of life start?

Sorry if I was rambling but it's hard to write this stuff!

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I walked my mom through lung cancer.
About your dad being sick and vomiting. It could be the type of pain medication, or the chemo. There is a Duragesic pain patch that might help him, so he does'nt need to take so many pills. The pain patch is by prescription.
You might consider having Hospice help you with some things. They are a great group of caring people. They will help you get the right medications for your dad, and answer your questions. After you are registered with Hospice, you can call them anytime for help. It sometimes is easier to work with them, than his doctor.
Whatever you decide, my prayers are with you and your family. What you are going through is a life changing experience. Be strong and remember to take some time for yourself, and your mom. A few minutes here and there. Don't try and keep all your emotions bottled up. Talk with family and friends.
