Nodule in Lung, Are they common?

Last summer they found a very small nodule (4mm) in my lung. I am a 35 female (non smoker). I am suppose to have a second CT scan next summer (after a year) to check for any growth or changes. Lately, I seem to be more concerned about this & wonder how I can wait until the summer to see if this tiny thing is growing. I am wondering if any of you (or your family) had a similar experience? I have read that lung nodules are fairly common.

Re: Nodule in Lung, Are they common?

Hi, i go on Friday for a second ct scan concerning nodule in lung, to see if it has grown since the last scan which was about 3 months ago. Unlike you i have smoked and am experiencing chest pain. My specialist has said that some people have nodules in lungs and that nothing becomes of them, but i am worried because i have smoked for some years [ stupidly ].

Re: Nodule in Lung, Are they common?

Last May I was having a CT for my liver and since both my parents had just died of lung cancer she decided to go ahead and do the lungs too. They found nodules that were very tiny, but to me I was really worried. They have since done a follow up CT at 3 months and everything was stable. I go again in April ( I had to talk him out of doing it this year) I wanted to go a while without any medical tests as I had been through alot. I have mixed feelings about all this and I did hear on TV that the incedents of cancers will start to rise due to the multiple CT scans drs are giving their patients. Double edge sword. I hope that you have good news on your second go round. Try not to worry although I know that is the hardest part.

Hi...I saw that report on CT scans as well...scary...but so is so much of what you see on the news is...but I think the question is to weigh the pros and cons....and if they are following a possible problem...I think that out weighs the risk.....My mom who has extensive sclc...found out this past summer...when doing just f/u on "spots" in her lungs...the reason that the CT ended up being so critical to all of us...was that the spots they were watching had not changed...but found new growth...unrelated...that she is being treated for....so please don't let the "news stories scare you"...w/ a family history...nodules that they are following...just keep up w/ that..so you may never hopefully have to deal w/ what you are reading here...just a "pain in the butt"...f/u checks...wishing you well...C

Re: Nodule in Lung, Are they common?

Thanks Carol,
I know you're right. I guess I just dont want to deal with any part of this lung cancer thing. I can just hope that I get a good report and that will be the end of it. Thanks for your reply

Becky

Unhappy Re: Nodule in Lung, Are they common?

Saw specialist yesterday after second ct scan, first showed nodule.
He asked me what was wrong as in my symptoms i explained chest pain, nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss. He said that my chest ct scan looked normal, didn't mention nodule to me and i didn't ask as i was so upset my emotions took over and i was a total wreck. He then said to go home and to stop thinking that i had cancer. I felt stupid and didn't get any answers as to whether the nodule had grown or anything I'm guessing now that it didn't show any change so thats why he has discharged me I know i should be happy and i am but i feel annoyed with myself for not asking more questions, and what has happend with this nodule thing? I still feel ill in myself and i feel that he was putting my symptoms down to depression.
I feel mixed up and alone on this.

Call him back and ask for your results in writing...tell him you just want to keep track of it...and tell him it would help you not think about cancer if he says that it hasn't changed...what I have learned ...is that DRs answer what is asked...if you don't ask...you may not get the info you needed..With tests that they could look at...i am sure that everything is fine...but you will drive yourself crazy without hearing it...you can also request copies of all your scans...and get a second opinion if that would help you...you should not have feel uncertain...take care...be well...C

Re: Nodule in Lung, Are they common?

Gosh girl, don't let some simple thing about you freaking out/forgetting to ask relevant questions. I kinda did the same thing when I was first told, my old head just kinda went numb & I NEVER let things bother me/get to me emotionally. Your reaction was normal.
Good luck & BEST holiday wishes!!!

Steve
