worried my best friend has lung cancer - Cancer: Lung Message Board

Hello, Im new here, My best friend shes 32 years old. She has asthma, gets bronchits and pneumonia at least once a year. Shes a smoker too. Well the last 2 or 3 months she has had bronchitis and pneumonia, that wont seem to go away. She is in the hospital now, diagnosed with pneumonia. They did a ct scan on her and found a blockage in her lungs. Yesterday she had Bronchoscopy, there seeing if its lung cancer. Whats the chance of a 32 year old having lung cancer. Im really worried!! What else could the blockage be from?

Sorry to hear about your friend. As for someone 32 getting lung cancer, the truth is, lung cancer doesn't care what age you are or if you smoked or if you didn't it hits people of all ages and color, and so on and so on.

I am a 13 year lung cancer survivor, and I faciliate a lung cancer support group. I have had many members between the ages of 26 and 40 walk through the door with lung cancer. Most of them are not smoking related.

I'm not sure what they/you mean by a blockage in the lung. Tumor's are not really/noramally called a blockage. Tumors may cause some blockage but they are called a tumor or a mass.

I would wait and see what the biopsy says before hitting the panic button.
(easy for me to say).

You say that lung cancer is not just from smoking ?
what other factors cause it?
you are also a surviver of lung cancer? could you tell me about your experience please. is it true that most people with lung cancer smother to death, cannot breath, eat or talk? and lose all muscle tone.?
My daughterinlaws father had a horrendous death from lung cancer, the morphine could not work in the end because his liver shut down so they could not alleviate the pain
I decided after that that i needed to learn more about this disease
