| My Dad: Symptamatic of lung cancer?
Hey everybody,
My dad is 53 years old, and I am concerned whether he has lung cancer or not. My dad has been a life long smoker(he did quit for 5 years once), and he has had an awful cough for the last 2 1/2 to 3 years. Also, my father has leukoplakia on his tongue, which I have read could possibly be a predecessor to cancer. Among other problems with my dad's health are high blood pressure and obesity. He has had a benign tumor on his ear before as well.
Generally, my dad will have a bad cough that persists throughout the day; however, when my father turns on the shower, his cough will intensify to where it seems like he has trouble regaining his breath. I assume that the steam from the shower is what is causing the extra bad cough.
I would appreciate everyone's opinions. I know that he should consult a general physician and should probably have chest x rays done, but we have been financially deprived by the recession, so if I tell him to go, it will fall on deaf ears.
Thank you very much,
-Pat
