Hi, I'm new here, please excuse the long message - My husband had a general physical that included a chest x-ray, results came back abnormal, was given a second x-ray, we hoped and prayed it would show nothing, but there it is showing an 8mm nodule on his upper right lung between 3rd and 4th rib. His Dr. is now scheduling a spiral ct scan to be safe. I am terrified that it will be bad news. My husband is 50 and a former heavy smoker. I don't know what to do with myself, and I don't want him to worry about me because I know he is scared, even though he is trying not to show it. Can anyone tell me what happens after he gets this spiral CT scan? Will they be able to tell if it is cancer by looking at the results of the scan? Should we be looking for a lung specialist now. Thanks for any responses and God bless all here.
Don't panic yet! I think there are a few other possibilities that it could be- not only lung cancer. So hang in there until all the tests are complete- though waiting is the hardest thing I know! Try to keep calm for him & I hope you have some good news soon. Do let us know his results- we are always here to listen!
Thanks so much for listening and the support. You are right, the waiting is so hard! I hope they can get him in for the scan this week, because we are going to Florida next week. My heart isn't into going, but it will be good for him. I will let you know when we have news. I'm sorry anyone has a reason to be on this board, but grateful there is a place to share God bless.

Hi, I am following up on test results. Husband had CT scan done, and it showed two nodules, not one 8mm nodule. One is lung scarring, possibly for asbetos exposure, and the other doesn't look malignant (don't know how they can tell), but he needs a PET scan to further investigate. I don't know what to make of all of this, I can't eat or sleep, I know I should be strong and positive for him, but I'm falling apart, and the waiting feels like torture. I am grateful that there is hopeful news, but more waiting for another test. I've spent two weeks thinking the worst. How do you have a "normal" life and do day to day things while waiting for each test and results? What if the PET scan does come up positive for cancer? How do you handle the worry and waiting? There is so much information on the internet, I am trying to stay away (except for this board). Thanks for listening

anything between four and five size is almost always cancer..one nodule in the lung could be no cancer or it could be small cell cancer and that is the most deadly!! it spreads like wildfire and you can not stop it..hopefully if it is cancer it will be non-small cell cancer which is much easier to handle and cure!! sorry but i am going through with this very thng with a friend..first a cough and phelm etc..then finally a ct scan to find it...
Well we are thinking of you Artistgirl- the waiting is agony.... One step at a time!
Can you go with your husband when he gets the results of the PET scan? Write down all those questions that are buzzing around in your head & ask as soon as you get chance. Sometimes the facts are easier to come to terms with than the unknown & what is in one's imagination!
Hang in there...
Thanks Bubblegirl - He can't get the PET Scan until next Tuesday, so more waiting. I'm holding on to the hope that the Dr. said that it doesn't look malignant on CT scan, and he has no symptoms, but the PET scan will tell more. Also the scarring on lungs may be from asbestotis, which is not good, but better than cancer. His father, who was a heavy smoker and also in the same line of work, has asbestotis, and his mom, who was also a heavy smoker has COPD, but neither have ever had lung cancer. They are both 75 and doing well. I will go with him for the results, which probably won't be in until after Christmas. I really appreciate your thoughts and support.
i have had scarring on my lungs too and it was from coughing, coming from some cold weather country alot of us get this too, hopefully all is well..'
