My mom is having surgery to remove a third of her lung next week in order to hopefully rid her of non-small cell lung cancer. It seems they caught it pretty early as she is in stage one and isn't even showing any symptoms yet. Can anyone tell me what she can expect after the surgery as far as quality of life? She is 61 years old and is very active. She exercises every day and is constantly outside either working in her garden or taking care of her pet chickens. I'm just obviously very worried.
My 72 year old mother in law had the surgery 2 years ago. She got over the surgery great...change the dressing daily..keep clean...she may be more comfy in a recliner rather than bed. she will be fine!!!
Thank you for your response. The surgery was today and it went as good as expected. She is recovering now and resting well. She is in a little pain but that is just from the tubes they have in her to drain the fluids. They should be moving her to a regular hospital room tomorrow and hopefully if all goes well she will get to go home in a few days. Again, thank you for your response. Your words were very comforting.
